Description

Our debut story is now available in braille! For curious young minds who have a thirst for learning about their world, this is a heart-warming story that shows what it's like to grow up in Kenya.

Lillian Shirayar Mang'ong'o is my maker and the star of my world, who shares her real-life experiences, kid-to-kid, heart-to-heart. Off the page, Lillian is now grown up and doing life-changing work helping girls find safe places to thrive across Kenya. Each copy of her story purchased helps to support Lillian's work.

We've teamed up with Braille By Luca to bring this special braille edition to life! Each page has been translated via custom made transparent stickers, which are hand-applied on top of the illustrations. This means that the story can be read in both via the English text and braille.

Origin & Maker 🌍

Our author, Lillian, is a Tiriki woman of the Luhya people in Kenya. She’s a dedicated change-maker who works in Nairobi as a family tracer. That means she helps to rehabilitate and reconnect girls who've been separated from their families with a safe place to call home.

We worked with Puerto Rican illustrator, Mónica Paola Rodríguez, to bring the story to life.

Our braille translations are done by the wonderful Braille By Luca.

The book is printed in, and distributed from, Wurundjeri Country (Melbourne, Australia).

Impact 🔥

• A built-in donation (10% of revenue, 50% of profits) to support now-grown-up Lillian's work in Nairobi - helping girls who've been separated from their families find safe places to thrive again.

• A second donation (of 1% revenue, each) to two Aboriginal-owned and led organisations, in acknowledgement that we live and work on stolen lands: Pay The Rent and Children's Ground.

• One tree planted, to support reforestation projects across Australia

Meet, Braille By Luca

After finishing school in 2020 he and his family wanted to put his knowledge and love of Braille to good use by creating a business that would specialize in providing Braille services. And so "Braille by Luca" was born.

Luca has been blind from early childhood and had a few stumbling blocks thrown in his way during his life. He started learning Braille from his early primary years and was instantly fascinated by how it opened up a brand new world for him. This experience has been the motivation behind sharing Braille with all people, not just the vision impaired.
